The eleventh consecutive season in the professional ranks for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA had its launchment this Thursday at the Palacio de Congresos and Auditorio de Navarra (Baluarte). The assistants could know the riders of the two teams of the green squad, the ProTeam and the Elite and Under 23 block. As well, it was presented the general lines of a project that maintains the work with the young values and its development as the main objective.
Exceptional guests such as Fernando Escartín and Kiko García from Unipublic, the Spanish national coach Pascual Momparler or Txomin Perurena accompanied the representatives of the main sponsors of the team, including Juan Manuel Hernández; team manager of the project, Ricardo Goñi; director of institutional relationships of Caja Rural and Pablo González de Castejón; General Manager of Seguros RGA.
The season starts with two new records that make clear the importance of the work that has distinguished Caja Rural-Seguros RGA since its beginning. Fourteen of the twenty-one members of the ProTeam come from the feeder team, with six cyclists who started the last year in the second squad. This is a fact that highlights the exceptional season of the Elite / U23 block, that reached forty wins.
However, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA wants to go further this year, connecting its two teams through its new Advisory Program. In this way, all the riders of the amateur team will have the help of a member of the professional team, who will guide, advise and support them in all the important sides of this sport, from training to nutrition or strategy (more information and partners associated in the next link: Advisory Program 2020).
Young but ready for the greatest challenges
Caja Rural-Seguros RGA will once again have one of the youngest teams of the professional ranks, with two cyclists such as Oier Lazkano and Juan Fernando Calle who barely reach 20 years. In fact, only two exceed 26: Jon Aberasturi and Aritz Bagües, the veterans of the group with only 30 years. In addition, Jonathan Lastra starts his fifth season in the professional team, adding his two campaigns in the amateur team. Among the new faces, the Venezuelan sprinter Orluis Aular, the Colombians Alejandro Osorio and Jhojan García, the return of Héctor Sáez, Bagües or the premieres of Lazkano, Calle, Sergio Martín or Carmelo Urbano.
Juan Manuel Hernández (Team Manager): It is a pride that Caja Rural, Seguros RGA and the rest of the sponsors continue with us. The Advisory Program is an opportunity for the young riders of the amateur team to continue learning and take the experience of professional cyclists.
Ricardo Goñi (Director of Institutional Relationships – Caja Rural): The new program for the youngsters fits very well with what we are. We identify somehow with “learn with what you do”. The best way to become a good professional is knowing what another professional does. In addition, we all need to be advised and that someone explain us some things. It is something that in Caja Rural we have always had very present and that we are working more and more each time.
We continue to believe in cycling as the best sport to strengthen our brand. All these years as sponsors are an example of permanence and durability. In a society where changes occur faster and faster, the rural savings banks have known how adapt, modernize and maintain its essence.
Pablo González de Castejón (General Manager – Seguros RGA): We started this adventure with great enthusiasm in 2013 and, seeing it with the perspective of time, we cannot be more satisfied with that decision. We have managed to involve our entire staff. In these 8 years we have enjoyed, we have learned and, why not say it, it has been the best way to become a better known and stronger insurance company.
We know well our position and therefore we have to be humble. To get notoriety and compete against the biggest teams, we have to remain united and work harder than the rest, something that is in the DNA of the cycling team and also in ours. We are very proud of it.
