Foto: Photo Gómez Sport[:en]The first of the five days with three simultaneous races for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA has concluded with a satisfactory balance for the green team. Three riders of our squad have been protagonists in each one of the races that are held until next Sunday: Fabricio Ferrari in the Tour of Oman, Lluis Mas in the Vuelta a Andalucía and Josu Zabala in the Volta ao Algarve.

In chronological order, Ferrari was the first to seek the stage victory. The Uruguayan has been part of the escape in Oman with Markel Irizar (TFS), Loic Chetout (COF) and Danny Pate (RLY). Fabri looked for the points in the intermediate sprints but the power of the French rider prevented him from climbing the podium at the conclusion of this stage. It was finally won by the Australian Nathan Haas (KAT). Álex Aranburu (25th) was the first Caja Rural-Seguros RGA in Al Bustan.

Fabricio Ferrari: «We have understood each other quite well in the break, Irizar has been in charge of putting order and managing the rhythm in the group. About my day, I looked for the intermediate sprints but Chetout was very strong. I thought that we could reach the finish, since we did not know the difference, but it was difficult, because the terrain was very hard. The wind is playing a key role, it blows very hard. It’s being a harder race than I thought, a very nice experience in another country, with another culture. In addition, the level is very high and the temperature is very pleasant».

Podium for Mas and Zabala

The other two riders of the team in the breaks of the day have managed to climb the podium this Wednesday. In Andalusia, Lluis Mas tried it from the beginning with Txomin Juaristi (EUK), Silvan Dillier (ALM), Romain Sicard (TDE) and Gari Bravo (EUS). The Spaniard battled hard in a second half of a very broken stage to ensure the jersey of the mountain. The ambition of Astana broke down the breakaway 20 km away from the finish line in Granada, where Thomas Boudat (TDE) won the stage in a close sprint.

Lluis Mas: «It was a very tough stage, we rode very fast, in fact the peloton was broken when they catched us. This year I marked the beginning of the season and by now it is going well. The first goal is Volta a Catalunya and I want to get there at 100%. If I keep this level until the end of the race I will try to win the mountain classification. It’s going to be difficult, especially for the mountain stages, but I will try it.»

In Portugal Josu Zabala was in charge of showing the green jersey of the team in the Volta ao Algarve. The Navarrese, in his second season as a professional, escaped with four Portuguese cyclists: Nuno Almeida (LAA), David Livramento (STA), Luis Afonso (VFB) and Joao Rodrigues (W52). Zabala has shown good legs passing the two intermediate sprints in the first position, the last one placed only 16 km away from the arrival in Lagos. Dylan Groenewegen (TLJ) was the fastest in the finish line.
